He said we were to love our enemies and bless them. That may be very hard sometimes, but when we do this, we will be blessed by God, if we do so with pure motives. Some people say they bless others, when really they are wanting attention and applause. When it seems hard to bless the people insulting you, but you do it anyway with pure intentions, you will receive a blessing from God.
